Chelsea Complete Deadline Day Deal for Cole Palmer
City Winger Joins Blues for £42.5m
Palmer Thanks Manchester City, Cites Project as Motivation for Transfer
Cole Palmer has expressed his gratitude to Manchester City following his surprise £42.5 million transfer to Chelsea on Transfer Deadline Day. Speaking to the media after the deal was announced, Palmer revealed that the Blues' exciting project and the prospect of being reunited with former teammate and friend Mason Mount played significant roles in his decision.
Palmer, a product of Manchester City's academy, had been a rising star at the Etihad Stadium before making the move to Stamford Bridge. The 21-year-old winger contributed to the Citizens' Premier League title victory in 2021/22 and has featured regularly for Guardiola's side this season.
Chelsea's spending spree in the transfer window continued with the signing of Palmer, who becomes the club's fifth major acquisition this summer. The Blues have also brought in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, and Raheem Sterling to bolster their squad.
Manchester City will receive an initial fee of £40 million for Palmer, with an additional £25 million in potential add-ons. The deal marks a significant investment for Chelsea, who are aiming to challenge for domestic and European honors this season under new manager Graham Potter.
Palmer's arrival at Stamford Bridge could provide a boost to Chelsea's attacking options. The England Under-21 international is known for his pace, dribbling skills, and ability to create chances for his teammates. He will be expected to challenge for a starting role alongside fellow wingers Raheem Sterling and Hakim Ziyech.
