Woods Inks $15.75 Million Contract
Former Vikings Safety Joins Panthers Roster
Charlotte, N.C. - The Carolina Panthers have signed free agent safety Xavier Woods to a three-year, $15.75 million contract. The deal was announced by the team on Thursday, March 16, 2023.
Woods, 28, is a six-year NFL veteran who spent the last four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. He started in all 17 games for the Vikings in 2022, recording 89 tackles, four interceptions, and two fumble recoveries.
The former Louisiana Tech standout was originally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He played four seasons in Dallas before signing with the Vikings in 2020.
Woods joins a Panthers defense that ranked 13th in the NFL in passing yards allowed in 2022. He is expected to be a key contributor in the Panthers' secondary, alongside All-Pro cornerback Jaycee Horn.
