MLB The Show 23 - Ronel Blanco
Blanco throws no-hitter
Young Astros pitcher impresses in first start
Ronel Blanco struck out six batters across six innings in his first start of the 2024 season, leading the Houston Astros to a 5-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Blanco's no-hitter is the first by an Astros pitcher since Mike Fiers in 2015.
Blanco, a 24-year-old right-hander, was making his first start since being called up from the minors. He allowed just two walks and hit one batter, while striking out six. The Blue Jays had just one runner reach scoring position against Blanco, but he was thrown out at the plate.
The Astros' offense provided Blanco with plenty of support, scoring five runs in the first three innings. Yordan Alvarez hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and Kyle Tucker added a two-run single in the second. Alex Bregman drove in the Astros' other run with a single in the third.
Blanco's no-hitter is the first by an Astros pitcher since Mike Fiers in 2015. It is also the first no-hitter by a Venezuelan pitcher since Johan Santana in 2012. Blanco's no-hitter is a sign of the young pitcher's potential. He has a great fastball and a developing changeup. If he can continue to develop, he could be a key part of the Astros' rotation for years to come.
