Former Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto to Join Audi's Formula One Project
Binotto Appointed Chief Operating and Chief Technical Officer for Audi's F1 Program
Binotto Departure from Ferrari Ends Weeks of Speculation
Former Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto is set to return to the Formula One world, as Audi has announced that he will join the company's F1 project in August. Binotto will serve as Chief Operating and Chief Technical Officer (COO and CTO) in the leadership team of Sauber Motorsport AG, with responsibility for the team's overall operations and technical development.
Binotto's departure from Ferrari ends weeks of speculation about his future in Formula One. The Italian engineer had been under pressure following a disappointing season for the Scuderia, which finished third in the constructors' championship and failed to win a single race.
Audi, which is set to enter Formula One in 2026, has been assembling a high-profile team to lead its F1 project. Binotto's appointment is a major coup for the German manufacturer, as he brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role.
Binotto's departure from Ferrari will create a vacancy at the top of the team. It is unclear who will succeed him as team principal, but several candidates are believed to be in the running, including Frederic Vasseur of Alfa Romeo and Andreas Seidl of McLaren.
