Drewes followed in the footsteps of his father, Ted Drewes Sr., who opened his first frozen custard store in 1929. The younger Drewes took over the business in 1950 and expanded it to include several locations throughout the St. Louis area.

Drewes was known for his commitment to quality and customer service. He used fresh, local ingredients to make his frozen custard and was always willing to go the extra mile for his customers.
